Working Class Nerds
Episode 84: It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like New Game Season!

Nick and Marcus look ahead to the games and nerdy media content that they’re looking forward to coming out just before the end of 2020!

Dual Universe Update
AIE in Dual Universe has been participating in the Ship Expo this weekend showing off a few of our shiny ships we’ve been busy building in the game for others to see and experience.
Testing of our latest ship designs continues as we work to constantly improve them.
Check out the Recent Blog post Max wrote up recently on for a bit more in depth information about what Dual Universe is, what we’re up to and a few pictures of just some of our ships.

Mining trips continue as we work towards building Anti-Grav technology. Some of the more rare materials still elude our grasps, but we hope to soon find them.
AIE is looking into sponsoring a racer for the upcoming Hover Race leagues which are forming. So if you are a speed demon who enjoys the thrill of white knuckle close to ground high speed flying let Catavarie know.

As the game is still in Beta there are constant improvements, perhaps the most exciting recent addition is a few additional logic gate elements including the Nand, Nor, and the ever loved XOR gates.

The Organization is in need of Coal and Carbon. So if you are sitting on a large hoard then feel free to drop these off for project use.

The new co-guild for invites is Fortuna! (best subguild)
If you are making a new alt that isn’t an allied race, DK, or DH, make sure you check out Exile’s Reach. The story is solid, and the quest/level pacing is really well done.
Update your addons, you may need to switch to Alpha builds until things get sorted out, but most addons have updated. If they haven’t, check the comments on the addon website, sometimes they’ll be a quick fix there while waiting for a release.

WoW Classic
The UO raid team cleared BWL for the second time!
Join us for MC on Saturdays, BWL on Sundays, and AQ40 just around the corner.
Guild chat is connected via Greenwall with United Orgrimmar, so feel free to chat and group up to level with our friends!

Hallow’s End is here! If you need an event refresher, Wowhead has a great WoW Classic guide to follow!
Vanilla “Sundae” is taking a break on Sunday, Oct. 25th but will be back with tentative November/December schedule.

If you’re active in WoW Retail that means you’re able to play WoW Classic too! Let us know if you make a toon, need a guild invite, or bags to get started!

We completed another night of the HK-51 questline in MFN and will most likely finish it on the next pub-side MFN. For part of the night we had to break into groups, so we had some extra temporary voice channels. Best voice channel names EVAR, including such favorites a #Meatbags and #Lump of Grease.
Our Sun night operations teams have been combining to run 16 man ops. Having 16 people running around puts a new spin on familiar mechanics. Also, achievements!
Conquest changes coming this week. We will be monitoring to see how it affects our ability to make large targets on both factions.

MEGA coming on October 23rd (This Friday!). We will be doing a spooky costume contest to start the night. Marcus is going to lead us in acquiring the Fleet Datacron. If you don’t have it yet, do not miss this. It takes a group and some fairly heavy duty cat herding to get it done. Afterwards open world pvp with @Corley .
We are looking forward to the new event coming in Swtor starting this Tuesday – Feast of Prosperity. The Hutts want to celebrate. What could go wrong there! Also, the Rakghouls will be in town at the same time, so Eyeless can look forward to getting killed again. We would poke his eyes out, but well, you know.

If you have not acquired your Vanguard Squadron inspired mini-pet (offered due to the release of Star Wars: Squadrons), be sure to log in before Nov 7th.

Be sure to log in on Friday nights for MM Flashpoints, Achievements, and MEGAs!

Recent MFN’s have been focused on clearing zones and doing public dungeons.
We have continued the tradition of following Kini off cliffs and getting lost while searching for Skyshards.

The Witches festival begins Oct 22 at 10 AM EST and runs though November 3 at 10 AM EST
MFN’s during the event will be focused on killing various bosses for the daily Plunder Skull rewards

On Tuesday October 20th at 12PM EST Pete Hines will be joining the Bethesda UK Stream Team at to show off some of the Greymoor content while raising money for the Cancer Research UK charity. They will have drops active so tune in to support a good cause and get in game loot.

Remember to raid the guild bank for any items your character might need.

The big fleet need is that both Spire and Embassy holdings are nearing completion.

The widening Gyre event is going on now and as part of the ways to add to the completion is a new TFO (dungeon) called Synth Wave. This is from the show Picard. Getting 20 days off completion gets you a full space set.

All T5 and T6 can now have an experimental upgrade to them, making them a little more powerful. This gives you a universal console slot, another ship trait slot (linked to the ship though), and another device slot. Everyone gets one free experimental ship upgrade per account, but you can buy more from the Zen store at 1000 Zen for 1 or 2000 Zen for 3.

MFN on Sundays are still going strong.

Realm of the Mad King festival runs through November 3. October 23 Maellung will be hosting once again (if his internet returns) a dungeon run. We had a great time last month and it is returning once again. Mad King’s Labyrinth is one of the best gold/xp farms in the game. Just hop in LFG, and find a squad in an open map and ride the zerg to cash. You can either open your trick or treat bags, or sell them on the trading post for decent coin.

If you are worried that you missed the chicken play race, have no fear it has been pushed back to this Saturday October 24th. We will have prizes to everyone who attends. We are also expecting an announcement of when the new expansion pack will go live any day now. Also we have been given great news that the devs will be working on finally balancing the monsters in PvMP.

And with that, let’s get back to Abovan and find out what’s going on in FFXIV.

Patch 5.35 has dropped with some interesting developments and additions to the game.

The highlight is the Bozjan Front. This is the next phase of the resistance weapon quest chain, although it is not required to upgrade the resistance weapon.

The zone consists of a staged zone, where you stay in the lower zone until you level and quest your way up, then you unlock the 2nd area, then the 3rd. It uses an independent leveling system. All jobs are scaled up to level 80 and jobs that are level 71+ can enter, so it could be used as a 71+ leveling zone.

The primary goal is to find Skirmishes, which are like FATEs in the main game world. These will reward some gil, experience (for leveling jobs), tomestones, and mettle, which is the experience point system for The Bozjan Front. Sometimes, a completed Skirmish will trigger a special Critical Engagement, which you will be prompted to queue up for. When you join one, it carves out a little piece of the zone as an arena for the 48 players for the encounter. This is a full boss encounter, with high health, mechanics, and overall fun fight. Once that concludes and loot is is awarded (mettle, tomestones, lockboxes, and relic weapon items), there is a chance that it will trigger a Solo Critical Engagement, and someone who was in the first Critical Engagement will be selected to fight a boss, one-on-one as the rest of the player can spectate or go about their business. Lots of cheering and emoting happens during these events.

There are drops that can be used as lockboxes for items, cosmetics, pets, and lost action, consumable actions that can be used in the Bozjern Front.

Also, items can be acquired in the front to upgrade the relic weapon. These can drop from any mob in the front, either in the skirmish or not. These items can also be acquired outside of this new zone, via fates in the Heavensward expansion. There is a 2nd step to get items from the Bozjan Front but can be acquired by running level 60 dungeons or your first Leveling roulette of the day.

As AIE, we ran the new Bozjern Front and it provided enough battle and randomness that makes map nights fun. We ran it as a group (with people bowing in and out as they wished), and it was a ton of fun. Skirmishes, critical engagements, and lots of fun all around. We will continue to run this content on Thursday nights, 8:30pm-ish (Final start time to be decided, ask in the #FFXIV channel for updates).

Other content in this .x5 patch include updates to the skybuilders’ crafting relics, a few new minions, hairstyles, emotes, mounts, new seasons for the Feast (competitive PvP), and for the first players to log in for 5 minutes when the patch went live, new housing plots.

Map nights continue to be a big draw. A level 80 character is required, but maps will be provided. If you bring your own maps, that is greatly appreciated. Maps are tons of fun, highly profitable, casual content that helps players at all skill levels and play types, either you be an end game raider looking for gil and tomestones, a casual player looking for cosmetics and gil, or someone casually playing looking for some fun and some gil.

Patch 5.4 is coming over the horizon, estimated to drop sometime in December. Aside from the normal “Even” numbered patches (last installment of the Eden raid, game adjustments, ect), we will be getting a 2nd type of map dungeon. For those that have done maps in the Storblood content, there is a 2nd type of map that acts like a wheel of fortune, and the screenshot that we have so far looks similar. AIE Map nights will surely be looking forward to this once we get our hands on it.

As a group, we are looking at expanding our fun nights to adding a bit more structure. We have been tossing around the idea of having legacy raid nights, doing past content that player may not have done themselves in previous expansions. We also want to do some story raids, such as Eden, Omega, or the Dark Apocalypse raids on a regular schedule. See the #FFXIV channel for details on this.
