STO
Captain Cybyl’s Star Trek Online News Summary for week ending 3/26/2017:

News at the STO website has been sparse this last two weeks, but a couple of tidbits have been posted:

1. The Tzenkethi story arc continues. A new backstory has been posted to the STO website blog entitled ‘What Rough Beast’ continuing the mission of the Tzenkethi to test their world destroyer weapons on small, defenseless, unknown races. Have the Tzenkethi bitten off more than they can chew in this encounter with a world of pure energy beings? Find out the amazing details of this encounter in this latest sci-fi tale. As before, no spoilers.

2. Starship collectors rejoice! The long-awaited Andromeda class dreadnaught is now available in the C-Store. Freshly refitted, repainted and upgraded to T6 level, Federation ship collectors will now experience the bliss of owning a favourite classic mainstay vessel. Visit the STO website for the juicy specs and details.

3. Don’t forget: The AIE Fleet’s Star Bases are always seeking contributions of materiel and personnel. And once again, please check out news, backstories, patch notes, forums, commentary, and other goodies at the Star Trek Online website .

Until next time, Captain Cybyl signing off

GW2
The GW2 guild is pleased to announce that we are stealing/instituting the AIE tradition of Mandatory Fun Nights. They are scheduled for Monday nights at 9:30pm ET and as always, only the fun is mandatory

And with that, let’s get back to Kini and Anwyl to talk about NOOB raid!..

GAME NEWS
Q-What is the purpose of NOOB raid?
S: Noob Raid was created to provide a safe casual environment for people new to raiding to learn how to raid and become more comfortable with the process. It also allows more experienced raiders to try a different spec/class then one they might normally play.
A: I really appreciate that younger players have a safe place to dip their toes into raiding too. When we have minors in the room, everyone is always great about keeping it PG13 for the most part!

Q- How did it get started?
S: About 3 years or so ago, the original Noob Raid leader, Sparrow, heard a lot of comments about people being scared to try raiding. They were worried they would not perform well and let others down or get ridiculed and/or yelled out. He decided a raid team with the focus on learning and having fun would benefit the AIE community.
A: And the idea of it really caught on. I remember times when we would run two full raid groups through SoO. People really appreciated the fact that they could come in, try new specs and be confident that nobody was going to yell at them cause of performance or meters.

Q-How did you get involved in NOOB raid?
S: I started playing Wow In Pandaria and had no idea what raiding was about. I was hanging out in mumble one night with a group of people and Sparrow told me I should join them one night. I spent most of the fights tanking the floor with my warlock, but still having fun. During WoD, life got busy for Sparrow and he could no longer lead the group so he passed the lead to me.
A: I actually got involved with Noob Raid because of my husband…he wanted me to get into raiding and I was terrified! I remember sitting there in tears every time somebody died in the raid. Afterwards Sparrow and Fyre talked with me and gave me a huge pep talk! I have been a part of it ever since! Now even our son runs noob raid every once in while. He was 8 when he started and 10 now!

Q-What is your greatest achievement when it comes to NOOB raid?
S: This is a hard question to answer. In -game the most recent one I’m thrilled about is Noob Raid did it’s first full clear of Emerald Nightmare on Normal. As a group, we had managed to get through most of the bosses each night for a few weeks before but hadn’t managed to reach or kill the final boss. The night we pulled it off, we one-shotted every boss in the raid and finished with 2 minutes left in our allotted raid time. Personally – Keeping Sparrow’s vision for Noob Raid going has been a goal of mine. I do my best to keep Noob Raid a casual, fun, and welcoming environment and at the end of every Saturday night I can honestly say I’ve had a great time with a great bunch of people no matter how many bosses we have/have not killed.
A: I think one of my favorite parts of noob raid is the connections that I have made with people. Some of the people who are in there we have been running with for 3 years now. That has spilled over to real life friendships and meet ups. Even when I get burnt out or bored with the game…the wonderful people of noob raid keep me coming back!

Q- Favourite moment?
S: There are so many…One of which I didn’t realize the significance of until much later. I get lost in game frequently and in SoO it happened to me a lot. I’d go the wrong way or pass the entrance of where we needed to be. The first night I raided with Noob Raid, I got lost on the way to the Iron Juggeraut fight and this toon named Elcarth came to find me and lead me back to the group. Three years or so later, I’m married to him, and yes he still comes and finds me in game when I get lost. Which is often. There have been nights I’ve laughed so hard I couldn’t talk, nights I’ve accidently pulled the boss and caused a wipe, and nights where all goes perfect and we clear the raid like we know what we are doing.
A: Honestly…there are too many to mention! Each time we get together there is something fun happening. There are times when we were down to just one person and we killed the boss..or even last night, we took down Il’gynoth in just one trip inside the tree!
