AIE News

Community
https://aie-guild.org/blog/2018/11/zen-and-bc-our-only-hope/

From time to time AIE evaluates the roles and jobs of the officer group that oversees all our game divisions and does the back end work. In doing that recently we identified the need for a bit more help in a couple areas. In particular, SWTOR 5.10 is going to take what we’ve been doing in that division with the guild “conquest” system and crank it up to 11 (and then to level 65+). Guild leveling, conquest changes and guild perks are going to require additional focus and officer roles. As a result, two new officers have been added! They will continue to be primarily SWTOR focused but we will be calling on them for help and guidance across the community as needed as well.

BCavanagh – Bcav or BC has taken on the role of Conquest strategizer for the guild for many months with his contributions in this area extending out into the greater SWTOR gaming community as well.

Zen – Zen has been with us for a few years now and true to his chosen gamer tag, he’s cool and level headed without fail. He is one of the top “helpers” in the guild, always ready to assist with any ask and goes out of his way constantly to make himself available. Also in the conquest management role, Zen has become a tactical execution lead.

NOMADS
Fallout 76 – Launch was fairly smooth, but as this is a Bethesda game, bugs are as plentiful as attacking ghouls. Servers or ‘worlds’ would occasionally have issues and crash, but there was always a new one waiting to move on to. PvP is a non-issue if you wish to avoid it, almost similar to warmode in WoW where if you don’t retaliate or are set in pacifist mode, it is not worth an attacker’s time to try to kill you. And if they are persistent, you can easily switch worlds and never see them again. If someone manages to kill a pacifist player, they become a wanted target for the entire server/world, showing up on the map at all times, and the bounty being paid from their own caps.
We have several AIE members running amok in the game, and you can chat and find out more in the nomad channel in the AIE discord.

Destiny 2 – The free copy of Year One is no longer available, but the refer-a-friend is still ongoing. If you did pick up a free copy of Year One, and are thinking of purchasing the Year Two Forsaken expansion, see about having a guildie invite you so that you can both get some fun bonus goodies for the effort. This includes an experience bonus for both of you if you are below the level cap for Forsaken, which is level 50. It also opens open a number of exclusive quests to complete together to get an exotic sniper rifle, an exclusive ship, and a friendship emblem. Those that refer multiple friends will be able to earn an exclusive sparrow. If you recently bought Forsaken, and it was less than 7 days ago, you can still be ‘referred’ by another player to activate the bonuses.

WoW
Just a reminder, Noob Raid will be on holiday break beginning December 15 and resuming on January 5th.

So, AIE in WOW in Review!

1. 112 gnomes were killed during COOP this year, however we still have time to add to those numbers with our annual Winterveil COOP coming up in December.
2. 4,235 battle potions were used on heroic Argus, along with 10,678 warlock cookies. (Don’t ask what’s in the cookies.)
3. An average of 7.7 players ask when noob raid invites go out between 9 and 11pm every Saturday night.
4. 141 left sharks were mailed to Syreyne, bringing the current total to 426. Obviously she needs more.
5. 682 pots of coffee were brewed in the guild kitchen. The Irish cream was optional.
6. Ralff’s Amazing Race was so amazing that the amazing officers want to do this amazing event every year. Isn’t that amazing!?
7. Summer of Love was great! Except for the Forsaken Laser Tag. All the Forsaken competitors were disqualified, since the laser beams went right through them.

What Arrives with Patch 8.1 (starting 12/11, but susceptible to time gating)

SWTOR
SWTOR Year End Wrap up for the AIE podcast

2018 started off with the last of 2017’s Snowballs on Nar Shaddaa, followed closely by Zen reminding people that they can get mats from the Guild Cargo Hold to do their Conquest crafting.

2018 also saw 3 new operations bosses in various difficulty modes:
• Scyva, Mother of Sorrows
• Nahut, the Hated Son
• Izax, the Destoyer of pretty much everything and everyone

The Guild came together to get all the operations teams a chance to down Izax.

We got a new Flashpoint, a new pvp map, a Conquest revamp, and the Rishi Stronghold.

We got a new podcast – Working Class Nerds – hosted by Marcus and Nick.

We had a great year for guild growth and as a result we moved our MFN and Conquest schedule from 2 week Imp/1 week Pub to 1 and 1.

We got 4 new officers – Dent, Marcus, Zen and BC!
• Marcus ran his first MEGA in June and it has already become a monthly tradition. (Monthly Epic Guild Activity)
• Marcus also instigated an operations night with all the current SWTOR podcasters that was streamed by multiple content creators. It was called SWTOR Unite.
• BC created and published and maintained his Conquest Calculator which helps guildies (and the rest of the SWTOR community) plan out their Conquest activities.
• Dent started Flashpoint Fridays, which is a casual pop up event for running small group content.
• Zen continues to keep the mats the flowing and shepherd us to Conquest success week in/week out.

We had fun times on the public test servers maxing out our characters and their gear, and killing bosses.

We conquered Balmorra!

Astromech EPC-268 is floating out in space broadcasting the 268th edition of the SWTOR Escape Podcast with Max and Sema.

But 2018 is not over yet! We will finish the year with update 5.10 which will include new story, a new daily area, a new guild progression system, private PVP and GSF instances for guilds, a new armor tier, and more

STO
Big things have happened this year for the fleet. Fleet leadership switched over from Captain Hunter to Captain Grebog.

The fleet made some big strides this year on the fleet holdings. The starbase was upgraded to Tier 4 and the Starbase Military also upgraded to tier 4. This has unlocked a large number of fleet ships.

The fleet Research lab was fully completed unlocking more trait slots, an R&D project slots on top of some gear.

The fleet spire is over halfway done in upgrading fully. Which will unlock some more awesome gear for the fleet.

As for STO, we received the Victory is Life expansion. Bringing back the Dominion and allowing us to create Jem’hadar captains and of course more story.

And of course the latest story is based on the Discovery TV series in the Age of Discovery. Ships updated in Tier 6 variants from the show and some really interesting episodes were added.

Also, as Grebog’s schedule has changed around again, I will be looking to find a time for people that will allow a fun night for the fleet to come together, chat, blow up some enemy ships and have some fun. So, Set Phasers to Fun, should be coming back soon.

FFXIV
Shadowbreakers has been announced as your next expansion for FFXIV!
We’re likely going to the Garlean Empire (not confirmed, but looking really likely)!

Warrior of Light might be becoming the Warrior of Darkness. But isn’t there already a Warrior of Darkness?

As seen in the video of the fan fest, we will have this in our hands, barring any delays, summer of 2019.
New Level Cap, of course.
Multiple new classes are likely.
Why was Thancred in the trailer sporting a gunblade? Right now, the closest class we have is a Mechanist, and they just use standard handguns, shotguns, and other ballistic weapons. Would this be a clue to one of the new classes?

New end game for crafters and gatherers! The rebuild of Ishgard has begun. Hinted at the idea of housing in Ishgard may be available. Farming may also be possible, but not as one of the new classes.

New Game+
Trusts. Similar but not a copy of the FFXI system.
Summon popular NPCs to help you in your adventuring, with their own class or role.
They do not level up on their own, they are based on your current level.
World Visiting. Visit other servers inside your datacenter.
World reshuffling. Adding more servers and regrouping of the servers.

End of 32-bit windows version of the game, 64-bit only at that point.
New race! The tease is a Bugs Bunny shirt. We are speculating that it is the Viera from FF Tactics, but will be introduced in patch 4.5)

Blue Mage, as announced by the CEO of Square Enix, Yosuke Matsuda, sporting a blue mask, a blue cape, and a staff with a blue gemstone at the top.
Learns abilities from monsters to use during combat.
How many actions? Was teased at “a lot”. Will be able to equip 24 at once.
Not connected to other classes, much like machinist, red mage, DK.
Limited class, meaning not for end game. Limited to level 50 at release and will have its cap raised in patches over time.
Will be available in patch 4.5, January 2019. Part 2 of patch 4.5, wrapping up the Stormblood storyline will be in late March.

Word Visiting details:
New Data Centers being added, some servers being shuffled around.

Goblin, AIE’s Home World, will be relocated to the new Crystal Data Center. Free Transfers will be available for characters affected by this move. No plans for AIE to move at this time.

ESO
This year, we saw a resurgence of interest in the game, as the improvements both in quality of life and game content attracted players back. Kini was named director, and has been leading and encouraging a number of well attended Mandatory Fun Nights ever since.
There has been a number of DLCs launched as well, including the Summerset Isles expansion, some werewolf fun, and even well needed attention for the Argonians in Murkmire.

Upcoming events – there are two in-game events still scheduled for this year. The Undented Celebration Event (11/29 – 12/05) which will reward Event Tickets once per day when your group kills the final boss of a dungeon. The New Life Festival (12/13 – 01/02) will award one Event Ticket the first time you complete a festival quest each day. These Event Tickets are used to buy the four Indrik Feathers needed for the new Indrik mount.

EVE
What a bunch of lousy Murder Hobos™

EvE is going through another donut domination phase and the crises (plural) that always follow. So prepare your buckets to harvest rivers of tears.
Good for the game, even with Pearl Abyss buying CCP and investing in other CCP games and pet projects.

Will see how EvE evolves or morphs to survive a few more years

POS(Player Owned Structures) are finally retired now, after almost 11 years.
New Cyno and JB(Jump Bridges) were deployed

GW2
It is always hard to tell because arenanet generally plays these sort of things close to their vest but it looks like Guild wars 2 had a really good year this year. The failure of Bless Online and some streamers deciding GW2 was a decent alternative really raised the profile. There are still black friday sales and giveaways in the hematite.

In game, the annual Winters Day holiday is coming up soon, in line with Arenanet new policy of not making events and achievements one-offs. If you are short on karma, the Winters Day orphans karma event should be able to help.

In the guild, we have reached level 23 and stalled out a bit. Hopefully we can regain progress in the new year and keep expanding the Guild hall. Monday Fun Nights are still generally scheduled, but we’ll skip around Christmas and New Year’s.

LOTRO
The Legendary Server opening is something the AIE team is jumping on. It’s the WoW Classic of LotRO. We have a guild there and a handful of people kicking off new old-school characters.

The guild name is Alea Iacta Est as DM +Adahrel+ granted us a rename from A I E.

Help us, Zen and BC. You’re our only hope!

His “Conquest Calculator” spreadsheet is at the core of what he’s put together for us: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1GoP6oVUROvpujs70ro6pSP3yH-Ez_zRYGnyEVViWEs8/edit#gid=841519314

We’ll be asking BC to continue in that capacity and help direct the guild leveling, guild perk management tasks that will be coming in 5.10 as well.

Originally from Australia and now in the northeast, BC will also help anchor our IRL east coast presence for AIE. I’m looking forward to more east coast meetups for AIE!

He’s always out there with help and suggestions, keeps our guild banks topped up with valuable materials and resources to help others make their personal goals, and always willing to jump in and get hands on to selflessly help others get done whatever they need.

Similarly, we’ll be asking Zen to continue in that capacity helping to direct and managing guild conquest, invasion targets and timing and guild strategy on how we all get make our goals week to week.

Also from Australia, Zen is now in New York and will also be a key component of our east coast team. I know both he and BC have already kicked off AIE meetups in the area. PAX East anyone?!

Welcome, new officers!

Destiny 2 – A lot of guildies are taking advantage of the free game offer running now through the 18th. See the Destiny channel for discussion of guild support for getting things going, getting gear progression on in end game, etc.

And if you find yourself enjoying the game, there is currently a refer a friend event where existing players of the Year 2 Forsaken expac can invite those with the free copy, or even those that haven’t bought Forsaken yet, to play with them and earn all sorts of fun rewards. These include an exotic sniper rifle, a ship, and even an exotic sparrow for those that refer multiple friends.
Fallout 76 – There may also be a few guildies diving into Fallout 76 starting on November 14th. The B.E.T.A. seemed to go well enough, and I am at least is looking forward to exploring the radiated wilds of West Virginia. This is a multiplayer Fallout experience, so if you are a FAllout fan, and want to play with fellow guildies, feel free to join in.

WoW
Noob Raid news – We decided to be brave and left behind the safety of LFR to venture into Uldir normal last night We managed 3/8 bosses before Vectis ended our rampage. A ton of fun was had and we are looking forward to trying again next week.

Kardinal, tell us your first hand experience with the chaos that is NOOB raid! (Can throw to Kardinal if you want; I was there. 🙂 I can make a story of it. )
Noob raid’s been very popular, full/almost full every week.
Been doing LFR, been successful, but in spirit of learning, wanted to deepen people’s knowledge
1shot Taloc, adjusted and 2shot Mother, laughed through trash, 1shot Fetid, and….we learned a lot on Vectis. Got the mechanics, need the practice.
Failure is good. Teaches us that it’s okay and fun to fail.
“Progression is wiping”
Most importantly, we laughed and had fun and there was no tension.

December community events: COOP for Winter Veil, no date yet;

Time After Timewalking event on Friday Dec 7th at 9pm Eastern/Server. LK Ulduar Timewalking raid. Details will be posted soon to the blog.

November Officer Play Date: Nov 30th at 10:30 pm Eastern we are having an Overwatch night. Everyone is invited. Come get to know your fellow officers outside of WoW. Let’s see how many custom games and groups we can get going.

Raid Bank Pilot Program: This program is doing really well, and we are getting a lot of positive feedback. If you are interested in applying for a raid team guild bank tab, please email us.

(Kardinal’s in BLTN, can talk about our experience and why we love it. Much more convenient. Don’t have to know who to send to. Don’t need to know what’s needed. Just throw whatever we think is useful in the guild bank. Anyone who needs, takes. Just need to trust your teammates, which we all do. Because we’re AIE.)

Also on 11/15 the Clockwork City Celebration event begins and runs until 11/21. During this timeframe double mats will be harvested from crafting nodes, there will be double reward boxes for completing daily quests, and the drops from all boss fights will be double as well. STO
If you haven’t created an Age of Discovery Captain, It is highly recommended You start out in the timeline of the Discovery show. The story they put in for it is pretty good. There is even a references to some other cadets with names you should recognize.

Also Black Friday sales. They always have some great deals on in the c store, from bonus zen if you purchase it, to discounted ships, special packs, lots of stuff.
Currently the Phoenix prize packs are back, but you only have until tomorrow 10am PST to claim a free one or buy them with dilithium.

There is a 20% of sale on all lobi store items until tomorrow 10am PST as well.
Also until December 6th, the lifetime subscription is $100 off, so currently only $199. If you have been debating it, or waiting on a sale, now is your time.
Tis the season for sales.

SWTOR
1) 5.10 dropping on Dec 11. It’s a big update with lots of guild stuff in it. We are really looking forward to it.
2) November MEGA coming on Nov 30th. We promise no one will die. Honest!
3) December MEGA is also a go. Beware – there might be snowballs involved. More details as we get closer.

Last night. We had SWTOR Unite. Which was….. All of the SWTOR podcasters united for a night and we took on the Gods from the Machine operation. AIE was well represented by Max, Sema, Marcus, and a last minute fill in was Corley. We went for about 4 hours and had a blast. In the end. Izax was still standing. But what a great night.

FFXIV
Though is is more news for FF15 than FF14, on December 12, those that own a copy of FF15 will be able to participate in a fun side quest, as FF14 invades Eos. The Miqo’te adventurer, which is curiously in starter gear, has come to chase down the primal Garuda. Hopefully, Noctis will return the favor and visit us in Eorzea.

EVE
#Making EVE Great Again

Nothing much, except more betrayals within alliances (so you end up with fights that are free for all, or where your ally helps your enemy). Even with CCP being bought out, the players are the most important resource in EvE, and Tears Do Flow Them Rivers!

Also WAR! WAR! WAR!

Onslaught Winter update is coming Nov. 13th

We just maybe, maybe making a new home for ourselves by stomping on some poor unsuspecting alliance’s neck. Oopsies!

What does that mean for AIEU? Why our specialty of course! Moving

LOTRO
The Legendary Server opening is something the AIE team is jumping on. You can describe it as WoW Classic of LotRO. We have a guild there and a handful of people kicking off new old-school characters.
https://www.lotro.com/en/legendary

Only VIPs / VIP Lifer can access them, and we’re effectively starting over all at once. I suspect Helegrod, the first raid back in the day, will be the ultimate goal after hitting level 40.
Currently “A I E” is on Anor, but we could move to Ithil if warranted due to login queues. SSG is offering free transfers.

GAME NEWS
Mew, Tet, Lanctharus, and Kardinal – tell us about your Blizzcon experience and your takeaways!

The themes of our talk:

1) the ability to talk to nearly anyone and know you have common interests.

2) the availability and eagerness of developers to talk to anyone and everyone who approached them.

Tetsemi – Overall thoughts are positive, lots of announcements, both expected and unexpected. Loved listening to the Before The Con panels, as well as all the panels at Blizzcon. The WoW panels (especially the Q&A) and the Warcraft III Reforged panels were amazing. The Costume/Talent contest was very well done, definitely bring back Darren DePaul for that, and the Warcraft Horde vs. Alliance voice actor panel was worth it with Laura Bailey singing Daughter of the Sea live.

Content thoughts –
WoW had much more information than I thought and I’m already scrambling to level up characters and finish achievements so I can keep up when it’s release.
Warcraft III Reforged was an instant buy for me as I can’t wait to play it again properly on new graphics.
Hearthstone – I like that they’re doing a troll expansion tieing into the current WoW expansions, it looks fun, I’ll probably dabble in it.
Heroes of the Storm – I love the story behind the new character they introduced and hopefully the lore behind the Nexus will be interesting. I find it interesting that they’re trying to flesh out the story behind it.
Overwatch – I’d pay money for the character of Ashe, but thankfully all the characters are included in the game. Loved the cinematic, and I really like that they stretched their programming and story wings a bit and made B.O.B. (Do something!) her ultimate. Can’t wait for more story on the Deadlock gang.
Diablo – Just the announcement peaked my interest in DIII again and I’m playing a seasonal Necromancer. All I’m going to say, with apologies, is that was the wrong venue to announce a Mobile game and the decision to make that the final announcement with the first Q&A panel afterword just didn’t work for me. I feel sorry for the CM team and dev team dealing with the fallout from the announcement. I’m really excited to try the game out and see how it plays and I love that they’re exploring the time between D2 and D3 in the game. More lore is always good.

Mewkow
Halloween with Mickey
Con before the storm/World of Podcasts – Great podcast panels. Lots of elbow rubbing afterwards. Good talks with CTR folks.
Blizzcon – Security lines were unexpected. Locked down food trucks. Lindsey concert was great except for the jerks.

I had an amazing time meeting everyone from Devs to AIE to new people. Enjoyed the planned content, but even without it, it’s a wonderful and unique experience.
Highlight of sessions: “When is the Horde going to get its real warchief back???”
Themes:
Developers are everywhere, available, and eager to talk to you.
Randomly – QA Mgr for Hearthstone. Tech people after the “Inside Blizzard” panel. Tech people love to talk because fewer people tend to appraoch them. New Executive Producer (head) of warcraft, John Haight. Global director of CS. Wyatt Cheng spent 3 hours in the Marriott Lobby.
Scheduled- Reached out to two Blizz devs via Twitter and made times to talk to them. Doing that gave us time to get really in depth. 2 hours each.
You can talk to anyone there and know that they’re interested in the same things you are. Impromptu fun conversations include:
Ex1 – Austrians
Ex2 – Cosplayer
Ex3 – Group of alliance players at Con before the Storm
Also: Surprisingly easy to get tickets at the last minute.

“The other day, John Staats released his WoW diary. The one he wrote when he was working on Vanilla. I was reading it last night. This is very relevant to the whole conversation, I think:

“In the spirit of education, the first thing I would like to impress upon you is one of the most surprising lessons I learned: Public speculation is always wrong. Always. Blizzard operated under a blanket of scrutiny, and only after I was in the meetings could I appreciate how inaccurate public analysis was. Unless you’re in the room, you have no idea what’s going on. Unless someone knows firsthand the reasons why a company makes decisions, popular conjecture is completely off. For a company as secretive as Blizzard, the tinfoil-hat theorizing about why we did anything was severe, cynical, and reactionary. It struck me how people universally assumed corporate decisions were thoughtless or callous—like if a feature was dropped, it was done so without regard for the feelings of the fan base. When decisions were made for financial grounds, people assumed it was because developers lacked imagination. Whenever technical or gameplay decisions were made, it was assumed the company was penny-pinching. I’m not even referring to the trolls dredging the game forums for flame wars; I’m talking about the intelligent, well-substantiated, and reasonable arguments about why Blizzard did this or why Blizzard did that. But…all of it was wrong and certainly not because the fan base was stupid. People were wrong because they considered only variables that were public knowledge—which were only a fraction of the pertinent factors.”

I expect it is clear to everyone that Discord has become the heart of our guilds communication tools in recent history. As such, we’ll continue to make use of more and more Discord capabilities over time. Here are some highlights.

  • Right now, we have a temporary section for Blizzcon where both the IRL and Virtual Ticket holders will be connecting, live blogging the hot takes, and getting in voice for chat over the live events.
  • Our #nomads channel continues to be a great source of discussion on lots of new and emerging games. Dreadnought is looking interesting and there’s some recent talk on Bless Online going free, Ghostbusters World getting launched, and Quake Champions being a thing. Not having a console myself, I’m looking forward to the RDR2 talk so get that started, please!
  • Our #raidteam-news and #raidteam-recruitment channels continue to see good use and the WoW Uldir normal and heroic progression updates look great. Even WoW Noob Raid was able to get in on the action with an 8/8 LFR update for Uldir last weekend. That was a fun night. Nice work team!
  • Our regular game text and voice channels continue to be in good use. If you are looking for game information or to connect with others in any particular game, those are a great place to start. Also, please feel free to make use of the open and group voice channels for any of your voice chat needs.
  • And finally, the buried lead. We’ve just launched our first set of AIE Emoji for Discord. Big thanks to our guild design lead and council member Xanar for her work on these and design guidance as we put this first set together.

Enjoy!

Our SWTOR division Monthly Epic Guild Activity series continues this Friday with a Halloween themed guild event. We’ll kick off the evening with a costume contest and prizes in three categories. The categories are: “Scary/Spooky”, “Funny/Crazy”, and “Pop Culture Reference”. Winners will get a custom guild title in our guild listing as a member note along with an additional in-game prize.

Be there Friday, 8pm central. Both Republic and Imperial costumed characters can meet up in the Slippery Slope cantina on Nar Shaddaa (summons will be provided).

Following the costume contest we’ll head out and find something scary to hunt. This second half will need to be on all Republic characters since it’s a Republic week and we’ll need to group up. Be sure to also have https://plug.dj/aieguild locked and loaded with a Halloween playlist.

Don’t miss it. It will be epic!

The “Pop Culture Reference” category is, of course, inspired by our resident master of the themed appearance tab, Thaan. Alas, Thaan will be traveling and not able to participate but has submitted these examples of pop culture awesomeness as inspiration. Enjoy!

There are many great positives about being in a large community guild like AIE, where members can get to participate in many varied aspects of the game from quest groups, dungeon groups, raid groups, pvp groups, role playing groups, and just hanging out with a great bunch of people.

Unfortunately, there are some compromises that need to be made when you’re not a “standard” guild. For example, a “standard” raiding guild would have ranks based on their raid roles, access to the guild vault based on their raiding, and the ability to let raid tanks have unlimited guild repairs. Doing these things in a guild (well, 11 co-guilds!) as large and diverse as AIE is difficult at best, and in some cases just technically not possible given the limited control we have on guild management from Blizzard.

A side effect of this is that some raid teams in AIE might reach a point where they feel they need those features, and remove their “mains” from AIE to start a dedicated raiding guild. While we fully understand the reasons, it’s also disheartening because it starts to fragment our community.

To help combat this to some degree, the Officers have discussed and agreed on a Pilot Program whereby Raid Teams are allocated a dedicated Guild Vault tab that they can use for their raid team. Other members of the guild would not have access to this tab. To achieve that, members of the Raid Team will need a dedicated rank in the guild, which officers will manage.

This is most definitely a Pilot Program, and a decision will be made at the end of the pilot period as to whether it will be implemented for all interested teams. There may be some unforeseen issues that arise that make managing such an arrangement untenable.

If you are the leader of  a raid team that might be interested in this program once it is approved, or have questions or feedback about such a program, please email us with details such as:

  • Raid Team name
  • Raid Leader(s) name
  • Preferred AIE co-guild

Corley has an AIE Rust server back up to check out the latest changes for any of the Rust fans. Maple Story 2 was released and we have at least couple guild members in there.

In Destiny 2 news; The guild is still working towards getting the clan banner leveled to its maximum benefits, currently at level 2. For those that want to help with this goal, you will need to get to the current max level of 50 and then grab the daily clan bounties from Hawthorne at the Tower. There is normally 1 solo pve bounty, 2 solo crucible bounties, and 3 clan group bounties that are refreshed every day. Once we get to level 4, we will be able to complete the raid bounties.

WoW
Just a mechanical, behind the scenes change with guild invites. We have removed the pleb guild rank and everyone is now a Cohort by default. As the major reason for the two rank system is long gone (the rapid expansion of the guild in the early days), it didn’t make a lot of sense to keep the two rank system around and removes one of the headaches of the officers having to do promotions each month.

Final Fantasy Fourteen Fan Fest is looming on the horizon, happening Nov 16th and 17th in Las Vegas. We are expecting a new expansion announcement, and likely ? of the details they are ready to share.
All Saints Wake starts soon on October 18th and runs until November 1st. This year we get 2 new minions and some fun housing decorations.

Age of Discovery is live with new missions, even a new starter pack and ships. The starter pack includes a scalable ship, so as you level you don’t have to change ships every 10 levels.

GAME NEWS
Gaming with Guildies
Zod: We want to formally invite the AIE Podcast hosts to our show for some live gaming action and shenanigans. Also, if anyone is interested in being on the show, please let Syreyne or myself know. You can ping us on Discord or on Twitter. You don’t have to be an officer, or even in WoW. We want to get to know you…our community.
Sy: We’ve done SWTOR, EVE, and Overwatch too. Or if you play one of our other game divisions, that’s cool too! We’re always up for trying new things! Or, if you have a suggestion of who to invite to the show, let us know that too!

Running of the Beef 15: Zandalar Forever
Zod: This time around is the Running of the Beef #15, code name “Zandalar Forever”. Over the years, we have done everything from the original tauren to Gerp and Henry to Lanc and Bronies to our special Ralff edition. This time, we are doing trolls in honor of the newest WoW expansion, Battle for Azeroth, and Princess Talanji. The event is on Sunday, October 21st.

Sy: We know many of you are full up on Earthen Ring, so we are running on the Ravenholdt US server. Because we had sharding aka phasing issues last time, we are asking everyone to level their troll to 10 in advance so we can group up as a raid. With full heirlooms, this only takes about an hour to do. So you have one week to create and level those trolls!

Zod: We are starting with the meetup and guild invites at 1pm Eastern. The guild name for this Running of the Beef is “Bwonsamdi Forever”. We do have a guild crest, so if you are inclined to buy a guild tabard in Orgrimmar, go for it. But it will cost 1 gold from the vendor. Unfortunately, with the change that made tabards Bind on Pickup, we can no longer pre-purchase them to hand out anymore. If you really really want the tabard, the easiest way is to get the gold for it is to create a DK and do some of the starting area quests.

Sy: Make sure that after you hit level 10, you hearth back to the very first zone-in starting area, aka the beach. We are going to start there. That’s also where we will do the guild and raid invites. At 2pm Eastern, we are going to roll out. We have all kinds of fun and cool things to do, so have your S.E.L.F.I.E. cameras hot-keyed and your twitter linked up to battlenet. We’re going to use #aieguild and #RotB15 to share our “photos” with the whole community.

Zod: In the past, we’ve had bodyguards to help us through higher level zones. This time around, we are doing things a bit differently, so we won’t need the guards to follow us. Don’t worry! I’m pretty sure some of you will still die. It is tradition after all.

Sy: If you are interested in seeing the formal invitation for Running of the Beef, or the full list of previous themes, check out our blog post on the AIE website! https://aie-guild.org/blog/2018/09/running-of-the-beef-zandalar-forever/

Upcoming Events
Zod: The WoW guild has been setting up once-a-month guild wide events. October is obviously our Running of the Beef. But we taking a break for November due to this little thing called Blizzcon and of course, the U.S. holiday of Thanksgiving. We have some great ideas for events coming up, including hitting up some older expansion raids.

Sy: To help with all these new events, we’ve started a new Events Committee to help out. If you have ideas for new events that we can do, whether in WoW or in other gaming divisions, please let the officers know. You can always find us in Discord in the #lfo chat channel, or you can email us at officers@aie-guild.org.

Zod: We’ve had some great fun over the last few months with the Hide and Forsaken, Kirin Tor Tavern Crawl, Trial of Style, and Pirate’s Day Warmode (and Sy’s pirate themed sad jokes!). We want to keep the fun and momentum going!

Update October 20, 2018: Thanks to everyone that was able to attend the Town Hall last night. Lanc, Sema and I were able to run through all the topics below plus a fair number of questions in about 90 minutes. We’ll leave the #townhall-qa channel open for a week or so for any remaining questions and follow-up. You can find the recording of the town hall here. Enjoy!

Original Post:

Hear ye, hear ye! The AIE Council and Officers will host a community-wide town hall on Friday, October 19th at 10:30pm eastern. We’ll all join up on the community Discord in the “town hall” voice channel. A private link to some accompanying visuals will be provided that night to help guide the discussion.

We’ll be talking about our game divisions, community events, community operations, real life meetups like Blizzcon, and more. A #townhall-qa channel has been set up where everyone can start posting questions. While we may not be able to answer them all during the town hall, we’ll do our best to get you answers.

Not able to make it live? No worries! The town hall will be recorded and made available to everyone in the days following the talk.

Mark the date and time on your calendars (or subscribe to the guild calendar) and start posting those questions in Discord. Talk to you next week!
