Greetings members of AIE, and welcome to all new guildies! This is Thyatira once again, bringing you the third issue of Vox Populi, the Official Newsletter of Alea Iacta Est. With the huge influx of players recently, I'm sure nearly everyone has realized the effect that this has had on our guild. The most obvious and basic consequence in my mind is simply the lack of familiarity among guildies. To be sure, in a guild our size, one will never be able to know every person. However, maybe you find yourself lacking that chummy, close feeling of friendship and comaraderie. The following article from Despair offers helpful tips and advice on how to make friends among guildies and how to strengthen your social network within the guild. Enjoy!
| "Hey all!
AIE is a huge guild with a ton of new folks joining recently. As kind and generous as all our members are, with the number of people in this guild, I can see where a new person might fall through the cracks. As someone who started in this guild at lvl 10 and didn't know a single member when I did, I have some tips to share on how I got to where I am today.
1. Make friends in your level Bracket!
Don't expect there to be a pool of high level players just waiting to give Newbies run throughs. While our guildies are very generous, you'll make more friends and establish better bonds with folks if you put together appropriate level groups for running instances. These people are likely to be in your level bracket the entire time you are leveling, and when you all hit 70 together, you've got an instant Raid group! I had one friend in particular who was with me from 30 - 58 and we crossed the threshold of the Dark Portal together. That is a day I will not forget, and it had that much meaning because he was there.
2. Not all Lowbies are new guidlies!
Keep in mind that most of the 70's in this guild have numerous alts. Just because someone looks new doesn't mean they are. If you group with a lvl 20 for WC and you were an awesome team player, that person may be a 70 who will spread the word about you, growing your network of friends. Near the end, I had a bunch of 70's I'd met through their alts cheering me on through Outlands so I could join them in Heroics, PvP, and Raiding!
3. Be friendly, professional and polite in gchat!
Scott and Randy have a particular sense of humor on the Instance and there are a lot of like minded individuals in the guild. There are also a lot of people who aren't, and that's ok! The tag over everyone's head reads "Alea Iacta Est", not "The Instance's Guild". Gchat is not the place to showcase how funny or cool you are. It's a place to build a stronger network of friends and ask for and offer aid to fellow guildies. Once you get to know members of the guild, you can be as whacky and outlandish as you want to be in party chat, your own chat channel, or the Questing channels in Vent.
4. Get Ventrillo and a Headset!
Hang out in the Shady Tavern and meet your fellow guildies in voice. Or, if that's not your thing, at least have these options available for running instances. You will make better friends and build stronger bonds when you can actually talk to your fellow guildies. We have these tools available to you for free (well, you gotta buy your own headset), so use them! (Also, remember that the Quest, Raid, and Battleground channels are Do Not Disturb. Stick to the Shady Tavern or the RP channel unless otherwise invited.)
5. Attend Guild Events!
Guild events are a great place to meet fellow guildies! Don't worry about your level, dying is half the fun! I'll personally rez you if the need is called for, as will many of the other healing types. There are always a bunch of higher levels around to help you not die so much, and here in AIE, we look out for our own! Pay attention to the forums for event dates and times and install the Group Calendar Mod."

Bobo Super Troll

Class: Priest (Holy/Discipline)
Rank: Praetorian
The son of humble Echo Islands farmer, Vahlaan Val'zann, Boboshanti stowed away aboard a boat to Booty Bay as a youth, Bobo lived amongst the pirates and goblin traders, and adapted well to the ways of the notorious port.
A chance encounter with a dwarf priest led Bobo to follow him onto a mysterious ship and was not seen for years. Upon his return to Azeroth, Bobo now wields tremendous powers of Light, which he intermixes with ancient Voodoo hexes of his ancestry.

Useful Addons
I'm sure most of us know that mods and addons make playing World of Warcraft much easier. From damage meters to economy overviews to specialized maps, these extensions allow players to take their gaming to the next level. However, the usefulness of some addons multiplies when used in certain settings. Alea Iacta Est qualifies as one of those settings. Our guild is so large that some addons become near necessities, so let's take a look at a few of these:

Omen
While AIE is most certainly not a raiding guild, there are definitely a few mods out there that contribute significantly to group cohesiveness and effectiveness. One such addon is Omen, a threat meter mod that monitors threat generated by each party member. Omen is very easy to configure: simply enable it, change a few settings if you so desire, and you're good to go! Threat levels will only show up for members who have Omen, so don't be alarmed if you can't see Bob the Mage on the list.
Unfortunately, Omen is updated very frequently, so having the most up-to-date version is difficult to achieve. Regardless, having this mod is critical to the succus of a raid.
dbCraft
This addon is one of the most useful profession mods out there because it allows all guild members to see your professions and recipes, and in turn, it allows you to see other guild members' professions. dbCraft works by scanning your professions each time you log in and then broadcasting them to other guild mates who have dbCraft enabled. By doing so, you are able to look up a specific recipe in a specific profession and see each guild member that can craft that recipe.

| Hail to the guild!
I wanted to take a little time today to speak with you about the concept of community and how to keep AIE a fun, happy place. Let's take a look specifically at your role as a member of Alea Iacta Est and how you can help preserve the peace and harmony that is our guild.

First of all, as all of you are well aware, AIE is huge, and with that comes a very unique situation in that no amount of officers will ever be available to police the guild. This is where you come in! We ask all the members of AIE that when they are witness to behavior from fellow guild members that is considered questionable or harmful to the community, to do something about it. This can include bringing it to the person's attention that what they are doing is harmful to the image of AIE or send screenshots and chat logs to the oficers that can help shed light on what may have happened.
No one likes a trash talking, demeaning ninja looter or griefer in their party, so why would you want such a person in your guild with your guild's name over their head? If you run into such an individual, please send us as much information as you can to abuse@aie-guild.org. The officers will do their very best to try to deal with the situation.
Thank you,
Lanctharus
