Greetings all!

This is Thyatira, your friendly neighborhood warlock and Centurion of Alea Iacta Est! Let's be honest, this guild means so much to so many people, and it's amazing how AIE has brought together the vast array of members from various backgrounds. Sometimes I have to take a step back and realize how incredible it is that a guild this size, having over 1,000 people, can remain such a cohesive group. Now, I've seen my fair share of happenings in this guild, but it seems as if good has always risen from the bad. Accepting this position, I and my fellow officers took on the responsibility of providing a positive atmosphere, good communication and excellent tools for the guild. After countless instances of members asking about this or that and so on, we frantically searched for a way to go about informing guild members on important information. A few months ago, several officers began discussing the possibility of providing the greater guild with a newsletter (forged in fire, built with troll sweat, of course). What was conceived that night is what you see here! On behalf of all the officers of Alea Iacta Est, I hope this little newsletter will provide a better understanding of the guild we all know and love.

Fish'n Club: Part Deux

The second meeting of the Fish'n Club will be held on Friday, March 28, 2008 at 10pm Server Time. Guildies will meet at Wailing Caverns near The Crossroads. It is recommended that you have a skill of 50 in Fishing in order to experience this event to the fullest.

When the person with the lowest level of Fishing skill has reached 150, we will head to Zoram Strand in Ashenvale. This will be our first "dangerous" fishing trip, given the Naga in the area, but they are good for Clam Meat for those of you also leveling Cooking.

Remember, the Fish'n Club is a tasty target for Alliance folks look'n to PvP, so be ready to smack them with your Fish'n Pole if they get too rowdy.

See you all on the 28th!

Craft Fair: Take 2

Who: ALL of AIE!
What: The Second AIE Crafting Fair
When: Saturday, April 26th
Time: 8pm - Midnight Server Time
Where: Silvermoon City
Why: To help guild members meet one another, to assist in the raising of trade skills and to raise money for the guild bank
Hosted by: Your fellow guild members

The previous Craft Fair was a big hit, so by all means, don't miss out on the second one! Meetings are being arranged by Toshiko as we speak. The success of this upcoming Craf Fair depends on member turnout, and even if you were unable to attend the first one, there's still time to get in on the action!

Lanctharus the Steel Willed

lanc1

Class: Paladin (Retribution)

Rank: Praetorian

After watching his family being slaughtered and incorporated into the hideous band of undead mobs that are Arthas' undead army, this former bookish Blood Elf joined the Blood Elf Paladin order of Lady Liadrin. Becoming a member of the order, he sought to exact his vengeance against the vile fiend that destroyed his way of life as well as collect the bodies of his former family and bring them to rest.

lanc2

Lanctharus is known for his rather off-beat and gallows sense of humor, which is often met with the blunt end of a friend's weapon.

Do not for one second believe that this is a weakness, for he has no problem making a joke, pulling out your heart, all the while finishing a punchline.

Why can't I see every guild member?

It's a common phrase heard, most often when a new member first joins the guild: "Hey, I'm the 500th member!" Little do they realize, however, that the guild list has been stuck at 500 members ever since, well, we surpassed 500 members.

Because of Blizzard's UI constrictions, each member in the guild can only see 500 members on their guild list at one time. To make things worse, each person has their own set of the guild list. A simple rule to go by is this: who you can see on the guild list, the next member may or may not be able to see. The guildie you quested with yesterday might not show up on your guild list today!

wholist

Furthermore, the problem only gets worse when it comes to addons, guild management, and so on. Not only is the guild list limited to 500 members, but Blizzard has also put a limit on the number of online characters viewable in the who list to 49. However, a few crafty members have found a way to get around this, at least in the short term. To get a more reliable and accurate count of guild members online, try the following method:

Type /who alea 1 - 60 to view members online level 60 or under.
Type /who alea 61-69 to see level 60's.
Type /who alea 70 to see level 70's.

The lesson to be learned here is to be patient with your guild leaders. In addition, contact your local Blizzard office (online, of course) if you wish to make your voice heard.

So the next time you see a new member screaming, thinking they won the "500th Member Prize", patiently let them know we exceeded that number long ago, in a galaxy far, far away.

There is no one individual leader of Alea Iacta Est. There are a number of hard-working individuals who share the many tasks of maintaining the order of this huge guild.
